There is a current Salmonella foodborne illness outbreak and associated recall of seafood products in Colorado. So far, 82 cases have been reported from Colorado. The 14 counties impacted to date are listed below. The recall involves 16 different types of seafood sold to restaurants and from fresh seafood cases sold up to Oct. 8th, by Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado.
The items being recalled are:
Haddock, Monkfish, Bone-in Trout, Grouper, Red Snapper, Red Rock Cod, Ocean Perch, Pacific Cod, Halibut, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon Portions, Lane Snapper, Tilapia, All Natural Salmon Fillet, Pacific Sole, and Farm Raised Striped Bass.
If you have recalled products at home:
- Do not eat or cook them. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them. Check with the store where the seafood was purchased to find out how refunds will be handled.
- Salmonella may be present on food packaging. Avoid potential contact by covering your hand with a plastic bag before picking up the product. Seal the bag and dispose in a trash receptacle that is not accessible to other people or to animals. Wash surfaces and containers that may have touched the recalled product using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
- If you don’t know whether the seafood you bought from an Albertsons, Safeway, or Sprouts grocery store in Colorado is from Northeast Seafood Products, don’t eat it. Throw it away.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, 82 cases have been reported in the following counties:
Adams (3), Arapahoe (6), Boulder (8),Broomfield (3), Denver (19), Douglas (7), Eagle (3), El Paso (2), Grand (1), Jefferson (6), Larimer (13), Pitkin (4), Summit (1), Weld (6).
Symptoms
If you have consumed these products and are experiencing symptoms of foodborne illness (nausea, diarrhea, stomach pains, fever), contact your medical provider or local health department for advice.
Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Bloody diarrhea
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration, such as:
- Not peeing much
- Dry mouth and throat
- Feeling dizzy when standing up
