The concept is simple enough… grow your own food and donate what you can locally. In March 2020, a team of Colorado State University Extension staff and faculty saw an opportunity to pivot our programming. We poured our energy into a Modern Victory Garden Project we simply call, Grow & Give.
Victory Gardens
Victory Gardens have been part of American life for more than a century. When food supply chains are stretched, whether by war or economic hardship, home gardeners can each make a small difference that adds up. People continue to turn to gardening in uncertain times for many health and economic benefits. Therefore, the CSU Colorado Master Gardener’s created the Grow & Give project in 2020 to revive the spirit of victory gardening.
Grow & Give
Grow & Give is a modern Victory Garden project aimed at helping individuals learn to grow food and share the harvest. The benefits of gardening are real; whether job loss, economic strain, supply-chain issues, a desire for self-resilience or better health. Demand at local food banks has increased. This project is focused on increasing food security, individual wellness, and connecting community throughout Colorado.
Participate and Give
Not sure where to start? Fact sheets, videos, and other resources from CSU Extension are located on the program website http://GrowAndGiveColorado.org. Register your garden, track your donations weekly and see our collective efforts tangibly add up!
Together, we can learn how to grow food and share and prepare the harvest with family, neighbors, and those in need. Grow & Give will empower Colorado residents to get outside and feel productive, resulting in healthier and more connected communities.
